The best solar extension cables for 2026

An extension cable is solar cable with connectors already fitted, and it is bought because the panel is further from the controller than the lead allows. The trade is measurable: every metre adds resistance, and the voltage drop over the run is the figure that decides whether the extension is free or expensive. A ten-metre pair in 4 mm² carrying six amps loses a fraction of a volt; the same run in 2,5 mm² carrying twelve loses enough to matter on a 12 V system. So the two specifications to read together are length and cross-section, and a listing that gives the first without the second is describing half the product. The connectors are factory-fitted, which is generally better than a field crimp, and the question is whether they are moulded or assembled and whether the pair is compatible with the panel already owned. Most of this shelf is sold in pairs, one positive and one negative, and some listings quote the length of the pair rather than of each cable. We compare length, cross-section, connectors, expected voltage drop, ingress rating and what a pair contains.
