A crimped contact is not a squeezed one: done properly, the barrel and the strands deform into a gas-tight joint that behaves like a single piece of metal. Doing it properly is a question of the die, and a tool sold for MC4 work carries dies sized for the cross-sections these systems use — commonly 2,5, 4 and 6 mm². A die one size too large leaves a joint that passes a tug test and heats under load.
