A battery box holds a leisure battery upright, keeps spanners off the terminals and often carries the first layer of distribution. The specification that decides everything is the internal dimensions, because batteries are sold in group sizes and a box that fits a group 27 will not take a group 31. Built-in outputs separate the shelf: a bare box, or one with a cigarette socket, a USB pair, an Anderson connector and a voltmeter already wired — and where those exist, the fusing behind them is what decides whether they are usable at their printed rating. Ventilation matters with flooded lead-acid batteries, which give off hydrogen while charging; a sealed box around one is the wrong combination, and the maker states which chemistries it suits. Strap points and the way the lid clamps decide whether the battery stays put in a vehicle, which is a safety question rather than a convenience.
